Professional Graphic Design
A professional graphic designer will have both an education in fine arts and practical, real-world experience. Whether you need help with a website or printed materials, an experienced and knowledgeable design professional will make your project a success.
Graphic Design Education and Experience
Professional graphic designers will have completed a series of college level courses ranging from the fundamentals of composition to art history and principals of graphic design to color theory, and will have a degree from an accredited college or university.
Experienced graphic designers understand the theory behind grahic design as well as the practical application of design solutions in the real world in order to produce graphics that not only are appealing, but graphics that perform specific functions.
Tips For Working With a Graphic Designer
- Review the designer's portfolio. A portfolio will give you a good idea about a graphic designer's approach to graphic design.
- Speak to potential designers about your project goals. Make sure prospective graphic designers understand what your goals are, and make sure your designer can articulate their creative approach to your project.
- Put your project requirements on paper. When talking to several graphic designers about your project, having a requirementa document, RFP, RFQ or other documentation which clearly details the project will allow you easily convey the same project information as you interview designers.
- Establish a budget for your project. When discussing your project requirements with a design professional, having a realistic budget or a price range will save everyone involved time and money.
- Match your project to the designer's skills and experience. While many graphic designers will have the experience and skills to take on a wide range of projects, finding a creative resource that is a good match for a project with more specialized needs can be a challenge. A designer who loves to create multi-media may not be as adept in pre-press print production as someone who works primarily in print and vice-versa.
